I am going to show my ignorance.......how can one tell the difference 'tween a "sanitater" canteen and a regular enlisted mens canteen?

Hi Lou, the Medics canteen was a larger size ( 1.5 L capacity ) and came on this special leather sling.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Hello,
sorry to say Ade, but that's untrue. The Sanitäter canteen has a 1L capacity, while the standard canteen has a 0,80 cl capacity only.
Also i didn't realize it before my first post, but the cup was not the one issued with the canteen. The specific Sanitäter cup was made of aluminium with a metal loop for the retaining strap. If the canteen was found this way, it means that the cup was replaced during or after the war
Her's one Sanitäter canteen with its specific cup
    Thanks
