Looks like a fine WWII era German canteen to me.

I have a medic one, and it is all matching, the top, the bottles, the wool case and the cup. Maybe yours is mismatched, maybe a later cup added to an earlier cup and wool cover?

Is there much difference with a medic one Doug? .......or is that a silly question

I believe the medics one are a little larger in carrying capacity and have a smaller cup. The back attachment is also different. Here is a link to mine.

Ronnies I have had some unmarked ones not all of them were if so it would be like CL 43 MN42 etc are two that comes to mind looks like you have a nice midwar canteen or so with a pigskin strap your cup looks like it is marked and dated 43. It is a original one from what I see. timothy
