I once had an ex-GI come in to a motel buy with a box that once housed two German anti-tank rounds. It was extrememly heavy and I could not wait to open it. When opened, it contained gauges from factory amchinery that he had collected in bombed out areas of Germany. What a disappointment. He also had a fallschirmjaeger parachute with it packing list and metal storage container. The gauges stayed in the motel's dumpster. I still have the box today.
One must wonder what was shipped home in your interesting box Chris.

I once owned a K ration box that a GI had shipped home to rural New York in 1945. An individual I know bought it at an estate auction. The box had never been opened in over 45 years! Inside was a a SS armband with several tinnies pinned to it and this lovely cap. It took me some time to reshape it after having been in the box for so many years! A true field worn NCO cap that never had a chin strap.
