    Default Heer Artillery Compass

    Hi Friends,
I wanted to show you another small item of German soldier equipment, but extremely important, by my collection and perfectly working.
It's a Bakelite Artillery Compass (quadrant divided into sixty-four):
Manufacturer: CXN="Emil Busch AG, Optische Industrie, Rathenow
Bakelite frame made by: "Cuno Heinzelmann -Hassberg, Berlin (code N7)
    Material type "S"=bakelite+wood dust

This example has been used by an Infantryman during the WW2, and as usual the white "A" of "Artillery" on the lid, it was scraped off for camouflage reasons.
Quadrants could have small differences, as you can see in the last picture.
I hope will be of your interest.

    Greetings
    Roberto

It's a "marching compass", I don't believe the A does not stand for Artillerie. Don't quite remember what, but easy enough to research.

Hi, you might be right, this compass is at once defined "artillery" and sometimes "march", from various sources also valid.
I have always believed to artillery version, but you put me in doubt......I try to better inform!:
Maybe they are all equal in the operation, but the "A" to identify only specialty that has taken over?

    Thank You

A is not artillery. It was some kind of upgrade on the compass marked with A. The upgrade included a rotating dial to sort out north/geographic north issues. NH

It is nice that it could be used by an artillery man because it uses mills not degrees.

Could also be used by infantry to call in and adjust artillery
