Default Help with Vet captured Panzer marked Ammo Pouch...

    Hi all.

I recently acquired a vet captured lot that includes some really nice pieces, including this ammo pouch labelled with the soldier's name, division and regiment info (it also includes the belt, buckle and two utility loops that it was attached to - not shown in photos). The label is hard to read in the photos, but it reads...

    Struthmann, Herm.
    5. / Pz.-Regt. 1
    My questions are:

    1. Is there any way to research this soldier based on this data?
    2. How is his unit info supposed to read exactly? Is it "5th Panzer Division, Regiment 1"?

Yep, this is standard Wehrmacht unit nomenclature. Sometimes it is expressed as Komp. rather than the oblique stroke but the meaning is the same.

You may be correct, Landser. I think what I'm reading as a "t" is indeed an "l" (L).

Any thoughts from anyone regarding whether I have a shot at researching this guy, and if so, how I would go about it?
