Is the eagle for real fake? That's my only draw to the box.
Nope, it is ridiculous! Maybe you might find something like this in Raiders of the Lost Ark or Inglorious Basterds but not on any genuine TR item.

Fake.. The m37 breda was Italian chambered in 7.35mm. Although some were manufactured in 7.92mm they were only used by Portugal. Germany had nothing to do with these from all I have read.

Just saw some ammo boxes on the link that zwerge provided. This needs to be researched more than just calling the eagle fake.. I included may stand corrected.

Well, I would say this a "Parteiadler" and not the type used on Wehrmacht equipment and certainly far too big and bright for field use. Unobstructed this would be discernable to the naked eye at over 100m and much further to a sniper!

The Wehrmachtadler is a different design and wouldn't usually be a stencil rather a stamp or printed on a lable which in any case would be inside not outside the item marked.

I still do not like this eagle.

Does anyone else think the Hotchkiss M1914 is a possibility? As I say I can't tell from the pics here as I don't know either weapon intimately.

Here`s a pic of the 8x59rb compared to the 8x57 German round, the 8x59rb is the round that fits in the strips that fit in the box in post No.1......Pete.

I don't think Hotchkiss, the strippers in this box are 20rd, not 25 as I counted in the Hotchkiss pic. I did find another with the eagle on it per the link provided, but it doesn't prove anything. If they were stenciled later to increase the the value, I'm sure they did a bunch. The guy that has this has a lot of other repro items as well.

For me the eagle is the main detractor here.

Not sure about the actual capacity of the clips being a defining factor as the Hotchkiss design was used by many nations imported, built under licence and captured so the production of ancilliaries would vary. Worth a mention also is that the Wehrmacht captured a quantity of Polish wz. 25 in 7.92 x 57 calibre which they pressed into service as sMG 238(P).

Better pics of the box and clips would help.
