I purchased this without enough prior research.
It was described as WW2 German but I realize it differs from the standard pattern.
The reinforcing ring on the shaft and the unfolded 'ears' at the top of the blade are what stand out to me now.
I have seen Swiss examples that resemble this.
I am hoping someone may be able to shed some light on this E tool's origin.
Wherever it originated I am very happy to have it.
It's the first I have handled and the wonderful aged wood and metal are a delight.

It looks to be a WW1 German entrenching tool.

    Cheers,

    Thanks Steve.
How do the markings on the blade fit with a WW1 issue?

Would the 42R marking be a unit stamp?
I cannot decipher the possible marking above that.
    Any suggestions?
Thanks to anyone who viewed this!
