    UPDATE:

The canteen arrived this morning...I'm posting more pics.
Assuming that it's an original piece, it's still a bit of "hit and miss"...

First of all, there are no markings anywhere - the canteen itself is in very good condition, so is the felt cover.

...And the miss: leather straps are very dry and hard - also there is some tear on it, where it's attached to the bakelite screw-cup. So I think I'll have to look for another set straps - if the canteen and felt cover is WW2 original - see pics, and please confirm...

The buttons on the cover (4 of them) are plain, no markings or any decoration on them, some slight surfice rust.

Well, if you guys say that the canteen and felt cover is OK, it's still good news...

    Cheers,
    Fabe

PS: This is the spare bakelite cup I have for this canteen - as far as I know, an original piece...

My advice Fabe would be to leave oy as is.
I have tried to swap straps before and it is never successful, they never quite fit correctly and always look a mismatch. Also as the cap is attached you will be swapping that and it all ends up being a disappointment.

I say leave as is- its fine.
    Cheers, Dan
