I remember reading about these, and about how they are much more likely to be tags for shipping crates that were recovered near Gumrak and Gorodische. I am probably wrong though.
The seller says they were found in a German bunker in Stalingrad near the airport at Gumrak... I think this kind of tags were used for the evacuation of personel from Stalingrad...
They are indeed cargo-tags. I find it ridiculous that these are being bought and sold as "flying permits" to leave the Kessel.
What is the difference between cargo-tags and flying permits?
These tags were used on crates of supplies coming into the Kessel...the different colors/shapes signify ammunition, fuel, food, medical supplies etc. for easy identification. They have nothing to do with men flying out of the Kessel.
So there was no flying permits to evecuate the Kessel? Never existed such thing?
I think if they existed, they would have been in the form of documentation.
Well said everyone! I did a small research and found they are indeed freight tags for Luftwaffe crates! Anyway the cost is very low, $5, so i think i'll buy it...
As stated these have been sold over the years as tokens for those fortunate to have been evacuated from the Kessel but they are indeed freight tags and are not just common to Stalingrad . The tags for personnel especially the wounded were in fact a paper label which had to be signed by the relevant Doctor.
Certainly no need to fake these items as they are low cost and plentyfull , last time i was in Stalingrad you could buy a bag full for a few quid !!

But lie at his feet , in the dust with our leader
