M31 kochgeschirr S.S.L.39

Received this nice number matching M31 kochgeschirr made by S.S.L. in 1939, with no rust and still a lot of its original paint left.

Makers of the three kochgeschirr from left to right on photo without straps:

- H.R.E.42
- S.S.L.39
- G&CL40

All three are number matching and complete with original german straps.

Myself, I'm still looking for a (mint) 39 one for my 39 A-frame

one remark: the straps you use are equipment straps, if you want it "correct", you have to use mess tin straps (with 8 holes), but thats just a technicality

Thanks Tom! about the straps.. i know that they are equipment straps but the "mess tin straps" are very difficult to find so these will replace them for the time being. I also have seen combat pictures of waffen ss and wehrmacht troops using equipment straps to mount their mess tins.. but in war probably everything was used/replaced.

As Tom said, " it is best to collect matching mess tins" ( value-wise for a collector ) but this does not TRULY represent what was happening in the field. As these two period images show, the chance of always retaining matching halves was always against the odds. making sure everyone got back theirs ( and matched ) was the last thing on the minds of the Field kitchens.

For me, mismatched halves are what makes these items come alive as truly having "been there"
