Re: M31 Zeltbahn in use (period photos)
Hello Jay,
concening the photo posted in the post 59, it's very hard to give a date to this knid of photo. They wear what look like Feldmützen Alte art, but they could be Schirmmützen with the inner spring and chinstrap removed as well...the Zeltbahnen seem to have aluminium fittings and buttons which may indicate an early date, but they're officers who didn't use as much their Zeltbahnen as soldiers, so they lasted more...maybe they drink wine...
Concerning the photo in post 60, they're wearing the smock of the first type, with Splinter pattern camouflage and without hood...The Grossdeutschland Division made it famous but it was a general issue item, not specifically dedicated to them.
Nice photo
Thanks

Re: M31 Zeltbahn in use (period photos)
Same here JPhilip, I learnt more about zeltbahn and how it was used from this thread, than from all I've read or noticed before! I just always never gave it much thought until now, I wouldn't mind trying to buy one

My first posting here.....I came across this thread via Google. Many thanks to the thread originator for his excellent work ; a great resource for anyone researching use of the Zeltbahn.
