M38 Gas mask

Article about: I decided to gamble and bought this mask and canister set. What do you guys think? From my knowledge it seems like an early war canister since it doesn't have the watertight marking

I'm not going to don that mask whatsoever in any scenario!
Even if WW3 were to start I have other gas masks, and even other filters to use in general.

    A few questions,
Is the paper tag on the mask where the extra lenses are a name, or a rank?
I've been digging through and the closest rank I could find was an SS rank, and I doubt that it's what that mask is, so I'm thinking it's an abbreviation of the first and middle name with the full last name.

    Thoughts?
The name Riepl is real enough, there are 100 souls so named in the VDK database, but when this piece of paper was added is lost to history - assuming it was not added recently. A good set as said, nice to get the early behalter.

A nice but rough condition M38 and Canister, with blue painted metal fittings to signify they were magnetic.
