The letters and logo represent the manufacturer, and the number represents the date of manufacture. 1937, 1939 and 1940 respectively.

The marking on that 1940 dated tent peg often appears on the sprung latches for gas mask canisters (hard to tell since the picture is not so goo). As far as I know it is a mystery as to who it belonged to.

It is from a Belt buckle book by Peter Nash, Although that firm made buckles, most metalworkers produced a variety of objects. As to your gas mask case, I would suggest taking better pics of the mark and starting a new thread for better results.. G
