    Just flat out added the universal solvent, and it was just under 1 and 1/4 liters to overflow. I also looked more closely at some standard canteens, and they too have 4 buttons, so I am once again wrong! But the capacity nails it down as the larger canteen.

    ALL German canteens have 4 studs, the covers with 3 studs appear on late war covers made by some manufacturers (i.e. those made of so called Italian cabardine). Go through my humble collection of canteens and you can see different types of these: My canteens

    Nice canteen. At first glance and as mentioned the larger M31 cup might be post war.
    If I can also mention Ive always found 43 dated canteens harder to find.
