Default MG42 Patronenkasten / Ammo Boxes - differences

    Hi,

I was looking at different boxes and it appears that most have post-war paint jobs.
The most common being the Yugoslavian ones, which brings me to my query.
What is difference between wartime and Yugoslav made boxes other than the lack of waa and maker marks along with leather tabs on handles ? I have read that center part of the handle on wartime is to be flat, while it is round on Yugo ones, but I am not so sure about it.

    Thanks !

I was out digging last weekend and found both types you describe. Round handle and a sort of flat profile type handle too. Not in the greatest condition so i left them behind. So center part of wartime handles does not have to be flat only. As much help as i can provide on this subject

    Cheers, Lars

I forgot to mention the spot welds on wartime vs. Rivets on Yugo ones on the sides.

Another note: some have only maker mark and no waa stamp, while some have both or only mark 41 with waa stamp.

I have two german made ammo cans, one has a flat sided handle, one is round sided, neither one has spot-welded ends, since Germany invaded Yugoslavia in 1941 I suppose you could have Yugo cans with spot-welded ends and German stamps on them as they were made under German occupation and control....who knows ??...Pete.

Actually, by Yugo cans, I refer to the ones made post-war for Yugoslavian made copy of MG42 - Zastava M53.
