Need ID on this canteen

i believe this to be post-ww II production, but why was it made??..for boyscouts or hiking activity?,,,cap is grey plastic,back of snap marked RITTER PATENT,buttons are unadored...thanks in advance for all replies,,Robert

Still may be early or pre-war going by the style & build quality but definitely para military or non-military use. Are there any markings on the neck under the choker strap? Could also be HJ ......
