    I just picked this up, I am not in any way educated in the area of field equipment, can anyone tell me what vintage it is please? I thought it may be 1935 by one of the numbers on it. And was 9.49 euros a good price? Thanks gents!

    Looks good to me! All the straps are there and it has it's cap!

    Hello,
    It is a genuine mismatched german canteen patterned on the WWI type, used in the german army until the adoption of the M31 typer and later meant to political and paramilitary organisations. The felt cover and lid 1928 dated are pure Reichswehr stuff....
    photos show some of them still used in the army during the war.

    Thanks very much fellas! I also bought a 1917 Rucksack from the same seller, I've posted photos of that in the Imperial section. JPhilip, did they use the 1928 lids and felt covers in 1935 because they still had stocks of them left over from 1928?

    I don't think so...
    IMO this mismatching is due to a personal initiative.
    We don't even know if it's period or done postwar by a collector
    always hard to say...
