Not sure what I have here

Article about: I received this item as a 'bonus' along with some Stalingrad ground dug relics and to be honest I have no idea what it is. Maybe it's not German but Soviet in origin in which case would the

    I received this item as a 'bonus' along with some Stalingrad ground dug relics and to be honest I have no idea what it is. Maybe it's not German but Soviet in origin in which case would the moderator please move this thread to the correct forum.

    Its about 3-4cm long and I think is made of what looks like galvanized steel.

    Could it be part of a webbing strap or gasmask/water bottle or canteen retainer setup?

    Also does anyone know the significance of what I assume is the maker mark in the first image?
