    Default Panzer Fuel Can?

    G'day from Australia,
I came across this can today at a rural antique store. I didn't think much of it until the owner of the store told me that it was a German Panzer fuel can from ww2. I thought that he must be wrong as the germans had jerry cans during the war. But he insisted no, it was german as it had been brought in by an old german man who lives locally and served on panzers during the war.
    So what do people think?
I've never seen one like it.
On the top of the screw lid is the wording:
    W.H.D.

    Hello Ryan,

The container above is not a fuel can. Between 1936-1938, the Germans did use various forms of kanister, especially in the 5L range, but nothing that resembles the piece shown above. Two excellent references for fuel kanisters can be found below, or alternatively, take a look at the kanisters of the wehrmacht thread here in the field equipment forum.

    Regards,

    Carl
