Pertrix Nr.505 Flashlight

Hi,

Can anyone help me to identify what is this flashlight used for? When I got it, it shines an arrow when turned on and I assume that it is how is was originally used, but for what?

The base has Pertrix Nr.505 with (I assume) the retailer's sticker "Kleinliobz (sp?) Köln". Length is about 33cm. It's got that weird octagonal thing coming out on the place where you focus the light.

I would say it was used to direct the viewers attention to a point on a projected map or bomb damage assessment photograph being projected.
"Look HERE, Gentlemen!"
My College Astronomy Prof used the same type of flashlight to point out stars in specific constellations when astronomy slides were projected on a 35 ft screen in the lecture sections.
