I wonder if any members of he forum could help me in identifying this axe? I picked it up sometime ago and always thought it was German, but could not find anything similar to it in reference books, and after coming across it again i now think its possible Swiss. There are no markings on the wooden handle, it looks like it had a mark on the side of the axe but its been taken off. The leather cover has "Rob Mauror", "Sattler",Schonenwo(a)?rd" and a date of 1940 "40"
If any members can shed any light on this i would be greatly appreciated.
It's a Swiss army pick axe (not climbing/ice axe, there's no metal spike on the end of the helve), circa 40's-50's.
'I do not think we can hope for any better thing now.
We shall stick it out to the end, but we are getting weaker of course, and the end cannot be far.
