    Hello Gentlemen and fellow collectors,
Here's is a quick but rather complete overview of the Brotbeutel 31 (breadbag) as it was produced and delivered to the troops between its adoption by the Reichswehr and the end of World War II in Europe.

    1931 to 1939/40
The Brotbeutel is produced in grey cloth, usually with brown or grey leather fittings. The belt loops receive a leather reinforcement and all metal fittings are made of aluminium (other metal may have been used on very early examples)

Front and back of such an example, here with grey Reichswehr experimental leather and aluminium fittings

In 1940, for camouflage purpose, the grey cloth was replaced by green/olive green cloth in order to better match with the Feldgrau of the uniform.
On the example below, the cloth is olive green but all previous features remain the same (reinforcement/ alu fittings). From 1940, leathers are more black than brown.

Between 1942 and 1944, the breadbags produced lost their leather pieces on the belt loops and the overall quality is decreasing

Below an example made out a very good quality cloth. Pebbled leather pieces are leftovers from ammo pouches production.

    The Brotbeutel 44
The belt loops are sewn, the central hook is replaced by a simple cloth loop and a pocket is designed and included to receive the RG34
