    Default Spoon / Fork ( spork ) in stainless steel??

    Hey guys!

    I have several of these in my collection but not one in stainless steel!!

    A bit crushed but as the French would say, c'est la guerre

    Obviously made by W.F.N. in 1940, would this have been Kriegsmarine issue? ( as opposed to the Heer aluminium ones )

    I know the Heer officers had a stainless set of individual ( including can opener ) but I haven't seen a stainless 'rostfrei' version in these...

    Cheers, Dan

    Hi Dan, no, they are Heer issue. I know as I have a similar stainless one which is WaA marked.

    Cheers, Ade.

    Thanks Ade - but why stainless when I have seen WFN ones dated 1940 in aluminium?

    Stainless = Officer issued, maybe?

    I thought that these were the ones issued to officers?

    I'm not too sure about that, as I've seen all kinds of them come from enlisted men as well. I'm thinking it basically depended on the luck of the draw as to what kinds and styles your particular outfit got or didn't get.

    Hi Dan, nothing was ever issued to Officers.

    Officers, like in most Armies of the period, had to buy their own kit. Every single item. They got an allowance of money towards it, but this would not cover everything they needed.

    These sets were private purchase. Any one of any rank could buy them if they wished.

    Cheers, Ade.
