Not sure what to make of it..it could be a few things ..either an equipment strap....RZM L2 makers of leather articles or RZM L3 Makers of leather field packs....RZM L4 master saddlers Craftsman work shops....I would put my money on RZM L5 Makers of Belts and straps.
This belt loop appears to be before the 1935 directive not having the "L" stamped along with the RZM number. I can not make out the first set of numbers because the stamping is light..which to me appears as the number 40. Looking into the L5 listing shows a company called Arthur Schnerrer & Co. Not a fact but just a guess. L5 was not only limited to making belts and straps as I stated above of the other "L" entities.
What I see on this particular belt loop..is there is new thread..which the old sewn holes are not being used. This could be a recent fix.,, as far as the stitching is concerned.
Odd to see a brown leather loop with SS Runes which were primarily designated to Black SS RZM accoutrements....the stamping is heavy and not sure the RZM code belongs on there at all. The problem is..we need to narrow down the RZM L department..to see where this type of belt loop and clip came from..that would warrant the SS using a brown belt loop or if someone else has encountered a loop like this. Im not comfortable with this loop being Brown with SS runes on it. Regards Larry

I,m not sure the clip even belongs to this leather strap, if you look at the original stitch holes ,they slant upwards which would leave no room for the bottom clip support to pass through ,as it appears that it is tight against the new stitching

I can not remember ever seeing this type hook on anything WW 2 German.
My guess is - IF the strap is an original(?) that the hook is a replacement for what was originaly on the strap.
Personaly I don't like the whole thing.

I haven't either Sarge I did see one like it advertised on a dealer site as a SS helmet hanger clip. I would avoid the thing my self as there are too many fantasy and fake SS for me. timothy

Sorry for the late reply. I've had some computer issues down here.
Thanks for your opinions on this item. I have never seen this hook arrangement myself and was also somewhat dubious.
I'll steer clear.
