    Default Strange green m38 canister

I purchased this m38 gasmask and canister from Dave Shirlin at germanhelmets.com this canister has had the outside repainted and has the US vets name who brought the canister home written on the lid. Dave Shirlin did not know if it was a war time paint over or a postwar paint over.So my question is has anyone ever seen this shade of green used before on german field equipment.Quite a few years ago I remember reading a couple of articles on a paint used in Normandy called GPR green that was applied to either HEER or WEHRMACHT helmets or field equipment cant remember which trying to find the article again but cant remember which book it was in.Any imput positive or negative would be welcome thanks for the help.

The exterior paint is not original. Clearly it has been stripped back to bare metal at some point in time and repainted.

    Cheers, Ade.

Good day Dean I took a few more pictures of a tag that is sewn on my gas mask strap as well it is either PAER or PABR cant tell for shur I really need to invest in a black light. I am also in the middle of closing a deal on a new M38 canister and mask .I am happy with it it still even has the almost always missing original leather reinforcement tab. As does my strange green M38 canister that by the way as soon as I get my new one it is off to Ebayland .Sorry for the pictures being mixed up can never get them to load in order let me know what you think of the new one.And would it not be strange if they were connected some how.

    Hello,
Funny to see how the short carrying strap has been repaired with an internal hook for Feldbluse...neat feature...
    Thanks
