I came across this relic kanister ( Gasmaskenbüchse ) that seems to counter the suggestion that OT painted ( or overpainted ) cans were done for a post war Egyptian contract.
This one seems to have a level of corrosion and age ( and remnant of a reinforced strap ) that puts it well within the period and it certainly doesn't look like the 'pinkish' tan the DAK used in the North African desert.
What do others think?
