Hi folks, Here is a tropical bread bag I won at auction for 40 US. It has no noticeable markings but appears to be a pretty early example. I base this on the fact that it has leather reinforced loops. I tried to show the color difference from the exterior to interior. It was a reed green color originally. Outside looks like a yellow/wheat color now. NH

Perhaps a mistake on my part regarding tropical. The leather portions should be web. However, I have not seen any other reed green examples in the regular issue type. The cloth resembles other tropical items I have seen. I note that tropical or web belts are often bleached out from green to a light wheat/yellow. Guess that altered my view of this example. NH

    Hello,
It is not tropical but it is an interesting "continental" Brotbeutel made of a bit unusual material that has probably faded. The steel fittings and leather parts on the belt loops most probably indicate a 1941 production, or early 1942...before leather parts on the belt loops were discontinued. The color of all examples produced at this time was olive green. The weave of this canvas seems bigger than usually. I once handled a Brotbeutel made of captured british canvas and the weave looked a bit the same...not saying it's the case here of course...but seized material was widely used for many equipments in conjonction with german produced canvas.
The tropical Brotbeutel never has factory leather parts on the belt loops...i've seen two examples with belt loops reinforced with thicker canvas, but they were locally modified, it was not a factory job.
    anyway, the price was good...
    Thanks
