It is standard pattern rucksack - tropical or late war type as it is sometimes called.
I would personally go with the small artillery backpack for display as this one is large and bulky when packed.
Looking for following WWII German items:
    - anything dealing with Allenstein (Olsztyn) and Wehrkreis I in East Prussia,
    - entrenching tool carrier (straight and folding),
    - forestry and hunting items,

Thanks for the reply and the suggestion. Was this a commonly issued item?

They were meant to replace the tornister m34/m39 so they were common.
Here is my artillery backpack and combat rucksack.
Combat rucksack it tough to display as it gets big :-)

Never seen artillery one with canvas straps but I seen engineer's pack with canvas straps.
Have a look at MP44.nl - German Uniforms and Equipment - Pionier Sidebags

I am pretty sure that the field gear experts on this forum will provide more info.
The A-Frame packs are pretty price - there is one on The Collector's Guild.
