    Hello these aren’t field made they are mg34/mg42 ammo boxes made in Germany during ww2. I have the same ammo box. Raul

    Intriguing modification Lebus!
    I can only imagine the extended lid provided sufficient space for ‘something else’ to be carried, in place of MG ammunition... there has to be a period photograph of it somewhere!

    It certainly looks like a field repair/modification to me, but to what end I have no idea. Hopefully someone on here will have a perion photo or details as to why there is a higher back end to the box. This is what makes the hobby interesting, new and different items appearing which need some thought given to them.

    these boxes were not just for bullets, they were tools for oil spare part etc. more information in link : MG34 accessory boxes and contents
