Nice example of an Eastern front pattern Wasserkanister.
Note the following markings...
WA marked.
White painted "w" on handle section to designate can was used for water.
Large white painted cross on front of can, same reason as above.
Batch number 764.
ABP - AMBI-BUDD Presswerk, Berlin. Manufacturers who made Wasserkanisters between 1940-43.
1942 - year of production.
Also note the traces of orange/red base coat paint. This was applied hot to all kanisters to help prevent corrosion.
This can was part of my collection for a while, before I recently sold it along with several other cans due to a lack of space. Just thought that I would share it with you all, being such a good example and very well preserved.
One final note, the gentleman from whom I acquired the can was actually still using it to carry fuel...almost 70 years in use. Testament to the fine production materials and methods of the Third Reich.
Regards,
Carl
