It's a wartime Patronenkasten 41, with a postwar Yugoslavian overpaint. These are quite commonly found like this. Some people strip the paint to restore them to their original wartime configuration. Others leave them as is.

Personally, I'd go looking for one that hasn't been given the Yugo paintjob. Even if you do manage to strip the paint without damaging the original coat, the leather handle attachments are postwar as well.

It has two layers of paint. The Yugoslavian green on top (post WWII), and the original German 'dunkelgelb' tan underneath. It is possible (but very difficult) to remove the postwar paint without damaging the original layer. But it is not worth the trouble, especially when there are so many cans available in their original state.
