    Nice pack. Even nicer to have the straps with it. What do you think the straps were before they were straps? (I am assuming some soldier made these, as I heard the packs were not issued with straps)

    Straps seems to be just hooked / attached to the hooks (not fixed permanently). I think they are not a German origin (Italian?), at least not a part of Koppeltragegestell. However, bearing in mind many variations of the WH equipment everything is possible (e.g. I saw a late war bread bag totally made with use of the British web fabric...)
