I have encountered similar lighters that were not engraved among U S veterans souvenirs. As the engraving is not clear from your pictures, does it have a military context?

For what it's worth, these exact same engraved lighters with the chalet scenes on them can usually be found on eBay for sale-always new and being advertised as "new old stock". Personally, I have never encountered a Used such lighter-they are always "unissued". If they were genuine German military issue, one would think that even on rare occasion, you would come across one that had been carried and used... I Have, however, seen the Unengraved versions in used condition and battlefield dug.
