Article about: Hah! Yeah, I am quite proud to have such great men among my ancestors, like many others have. I unfortunately don't have any of his items, though I've began hunting for his closest relatives

Very nice photos! I wonder who the Lieutenant-Colonel in the photo is.

    Default .

I digged through our old house and found these pictures. The pics are unfortunately sideways, though they are properly in my computer. If some mod could fix this anyhow, I'd appreciate this greatly.

Finnish brothers in war, but very far away from each other..

The Finnish soldier is my greatgrandfather Armas Kivelä during his years as a private. He later in the war became Lieutenant second class.

The SS soldier is my greatuncle Mikko Pentti, who volunteered to Finnische Freiwilligen bataillon der Nordost (later on Wiking/Nordland) and served in Eastern Front; Ukraine.

Very interesting and nice photos, thank you for sharing! Do you know what happened to your great-uncle and did he survive the war?

I turned the photos the right way for you .

Here are the rest of the photos turned the right way. If you don't mind, I did a quick crop on a couple of them. Do you know who the Reserve Officer School student is in the photo ? It seems that the photo was taken in the interwar period and that he was valiant in the Winter War, as he has two Medals of Liberties.

    Thanks Aleksander!

Unfortunately Im not sure about the SS man, but If I recall right, he survived the war. I've visited his grave in Parkano once, and I dont remember seeing his time of death as wartime, because that would've definetly caught my eye.

Now that you mentioned it, I didnt even pay attention who the officer candidate is. I compared the SS man and the candidate and they seem to be the same man, Mikko Pentti!

Thank you for the info! I didn't realize that it was him at first . You must be very proud of your heritage.

Do you have any of Mikko's items?
