I would have thought such a thing would not have been legal under International Law. How strange.

Yes, he would been fought with swedish uniform. Below is photo from 1941. Four swedish volunteers have been awarded the freedom medal 2nd class. Second from right is wearing a swedish army jacket M39.
The jacket in this thread, which is said to be swedish volunteer jacket is a unfortunately a makeshift jacket from post-war swedish M39-58. It is missing shoulderboards and pockets from back are just removed and finnish buttons added. The jacket is not real M39.
What kind of helmet is the guy, second from left, wearing ?

All Swedish national insignias are remowed and swedish buttons replaced by finnish buttons. After that it is finnish army jacket, just different in color.
Steve R,
The helmet is finnish made M40 Waertsila helmet, copy of swedish M37 helmet.

Steve, could it be czech vz32?

The helmet could be Swedish m37 or Finnish m40 helmet both look a like as the Finnish m40 is a copy of the Swedish M37 but both helmets were in use with the Finnish Army
