Possibly chemical, signal flag? Is it German? 9" x 8". It was labeled as a WW2 Chemical Cavalry Flag? Thanks.

ooOOooh I found some pretty morbid details about this one, assuming that the wikipedia article and this flag would be talking about the same thing.

Although like I said, don't know if that was it.
It's also more prosaically the International Code flag for the letter 'L' for Lima and can also be read as 'Stop Vessel Instantly'.
