Kriegsmarine (Reichskriegsfahne) Flag...

Article about: Walkwolf, I ran the white trimmed edge (the edge that houses the rope) and it does seem to glow, although not near as strong as the white in my t-shirt. Makes it a little difficult to tell w

    Default Kriegsmarine (Reichskriegsfahne) Flag...

I'm looking to purchase a 60cm x 90cm (2' x 3') Reichskriegsfahne and wanted to see what some of the flag enthusiasts think. Assuming its authentic it will be my first German flag, so I'm not at all versed on what to look for in fake or repro flags. I've had a look at some examples online, and here on this forum and did find at least one other that looks like the one I'm looking to purchase, where the only marking is the stamped, "Reichskriegsfahne" as shown in the photo below.

The fabric looks correct (more canvas looking versus cotton), and from what I can see in the photo the rope may be correct as well.

    Thoughts??

    It's a good one, about £300-350?

    zwerge, John,

Is this a rare one? What would have been it's use during the war, where would it most likely have been flying? I haven't gotten that far in my research yet.

Hey guys, I got a reply on another forum where the member stated he thought any 60x90 flags are fake, and that TR didn't make flags of this size. Do you guys agree with this? My guess is no since you've already given your opinions, but wanted to run it by you guys anyway.

By the way, just picked it up. Aside from it having about four 1/8" holes punched into the edges for hanging it looks great!

I posted two - one of the same type and size as this almost a year ago, and it was ID'ed
as a fake from the 1970's.

Apparently, originals should read 'Reichkriegsflagge', the ink should be darker and in a
slightly different font. Also, there should be re-enforcment 'squares' at each corner.
These flags were never made in 60cm x 90cm size, so I was told.

Another clue, I noticed, is the loose cord on the bottom edge.
It should be in a loop, like the top cord shows.

The best method is by putting a black-light to the white bunting thread
and seeing if it glows, as mine does ......................... !

Great advice Walkwolf. I have a black-light just for this purpose. I'll cross my fingers and report my findings. I need to remember that doggone black-light when buying cloth items going forward. Oh well, if its a fake I'll chalk it up to a learning experience. I only paid $75.

$75, is a very good clue as to it's being a fake !

These should really sell for about $600 plus, if original, as smaller flags
are more desirable. ( I've seen them at this price and even higher ! )

I got both of mine as a lot with an original Flakhelfer cap and a wool
NSDAP armband, so it made the deal a little easier to take after
    all was said and done.

For that rather reasonable price, it will make a wonderful display or
backdrop, and I really think these should sell for about $150,
because they are 'Vintage' replicas !
