I've always wanted one in my collection. The roll up method is one i use for flags I don't have displayed on the wall. Mainly because I've run out of room, especially for the huge KM battle flag! Do you think it's ok to fold it in thirds longways and then roll it? BTW, I love the Japanese naval flag! I just got one recently as well, it's on my wall. Thanks for sharing your lovely banners
You can fold the flag but it will cause stress to the fabric (hanging it up will also cause stress...that is a different topic). The best way to store the flag would be rolling it up, but I would put archival safe tissue on the flag so when you roll it up, the fabric won't be touching other sides of the flag. After rolling it up, put another sheet of tissue around the flag.
