The metal is quite soft so probably pewter, will test with a magnet if I can find one.
Hi z4, that's a very rare buckle. They were experimental from around 1914/15 when they were trying to find cheaper alternatives to brass & nickel silver buckles. I've seen Saxon ones in pewter & being Dresden is in Saxony it would logical that they also tried to make Prussian ones. The experiment failed as pewter buckles were prone to rip/tear & break during use. May explain the damage to yours. Thanks for showing.

    Cheers,

    Richard.

I have had the buckle for years and did no think much about it because of it is condition.
I don't like asking on the forum but is it of any value.

Hi z4, I'm not sure what it's worth as I've not seen one for sale. A Saxon one in Peter Nashs' book is priced in 2003 at £100 to £125; but this one is regimentaly marked with a leather tab. Hope this is of some help? Probably the best bet (if you wany to sell it) is to stick on ebay & see what happens. Cheers, Richard.

I just wanted an idea what it might be worth,I was saving up for a German dagger but my sons central heating boiler has blown up so he's on the scrounge.
