Re: Dancing Dragon
Whilst "Imperial" is not really my forte, I do have a slight soft spot for this Chinese Expeditionary buckle. I understand that the roundel design does have both overt and symbolic significance. It is quite a rare buckle, although examples do appear for sale on occasions and overall, a somewhat specialised and somewhat under rated genre. A super buckle in my eyes and one which is of course documented, to include that in the Catella publication.
Regards,
David

Re: Dancing Dragon
Hello all,
This is one of my favourite buckles. I have three, all different makers and sizes. I also have some pics of it in wear by Chinese troops. I have read that these, as well as swords with the dragon on them, were made for export to Imperial Chinese troops. They seem to have also been worn by Chinese auxiliaries to the German troops during the Boxer Rebellion. The buckles were probably popular as souvenirs with the German troops at the time, judging by the fact that they sometimes surface in Germany.
