I'm not liking the two SS buckles. If my thinking is right, those catches never existed on period buckles. I may be wrong though, wait for the buckle guys to chime in, as I am more of a helmet guy.
Cheers, Warbuff
Steve, Flemish SS and the SS buckles are total fakes, the Heer buckle is original by Richard Seiper and Sohne, the two piece Luft stands a chance, from the prongs could be Overhoff but would need better pics
Ben

Hi Markus, I think the LW buckle is a alloy as it is not magnetic it also looks to be covered in some form of material to give it it's pebbled look. BTW you have a great collection of buckles and memorabilia.
Hello,
thank you .........
Is it aluminium or Zink ?
On the pics it looks like salty zink, late war production ?

Is there an easy way to tell if it is ali or zinc without trying to scratch the surface. Don't think it is of brass construction as it doesn't feel that heavy. I can see on one of the edges that it is a ali or zinc colour with a coating of something to give that dotted effect. I have also had a good look to see if there are any makers marks but cannot see any.
Hello,
think the dark grey color on the front looks like zinc .
Aluminium most withe silver but never so dark...........

Must be zinc then but what would be the coating over the zinc to give it the dotted effect. There is definitely some sort of coating over the front of the buckle.
