The good old days when we could immediately identify a box buckle as being a fake by the presence of three under size vertical solder points holding the roundel in place.

The fake SA buckle shown has a roundel with a very distinct eagle and sun-wheel swastika, being very closely based on a period design. In addition, the roundel has a "brother" which shows a mobile swastika and again, very close to an original design.

The problem now is that this fake roundel is found on fake and original boxes, attached by 1, 2 or 3 solder points, 1 or 2 round head rivets, single fold over metal strips, twin metal lugs etc., etc.

Attached is only a small selection of the "family" and all are fakes.

    Regards,

    David

The disk shows definite wear, difficult to fake. I know the numbering on the Gestapo disk is unlike any I have seen in Bible's offerings. Most of the "fakes" have pressed ID numbers. These are struck. Has anyone else seen any that were struck in this method?

The disc does show wear, yes, however, it could have been
used on a keychain, perhaps 1983 to 1998.

    15 years of honest wear..........

Well okay I guess that was a pretty prolific faker to spend fifteen years on one disk to give it that "worn" look. I guess anything is possible.

Not meant to fake, just to use as a key fob............

Speaking of which, a friend told me his father used to process prisoners
near the end of WWII, removing insignia and medals from the german
soldiers as he went. For years after the war he used 2nd class Iron Crosses
as key fobs - he had a cigar box full of them.

When one would get worn out he would simply thow it away
and put a new one on his keyring...........
