How can you tell if a rzm stamp is authentic?? Should it have one circle or 2 circles?? Should the legs on the letter " m " be straight or pointing outward?? Should there be a slash mark in the letter " z " ??? Thanks dave h

Hi Dave, good RZM marks can feature these traits.

The problem is old books made broad assumptions about RZM marks and this muddied the waters. Since then new info has come to light. Some fakes may display the traits you mention, but it does not automatically make them bad.

    Cheers, Ade.

A very interesting question Dave and Ade has rightly hit the nail on the head. In my opinion and for belt buckles, there is quite simply no such thing as a standard and approved RZM logo by say design, configuration and/or size etc., etc. Original RZM marks as both raised and impressed are seen in various sizes, with both single and double circles, crossed and non crossed Z's, complete with a variety of fonts.

We now have fake RZM marks which are impossible to tell in isolation if fake or not and instead, the buckle has to be viewed as a whole. The only exception to my knowledge is the still seen (on mainly fake SA buckles), tiny hand stamped RZM where it is almost impossible to make out what it actually is. I have never seen an original buckle with this very distinct and actually quite clumsy, amateur and crude mark.

Other than this, the originality of the RZM mark has to be viewed within the context of the buckle which supports it.

Let me know if you would like some images of fake RZM marks.

    Regards,

    David

If you had the time David, it would be good for all to see.

    Dear Ben

Here is a random and perhaps lazy selection of RZM marks which have been displayed on known fake and fantasy buckles. The quality of the images are generally dreadful and my apologies, although as you will appreciate, these have on occasions been extracted from the internet and accordingly, the overall image has been of a small compressed size and low quality. Needs must and all that.

Perhaps though this eclectic selection of rogues serves as a stark illustration toward the sheer and often convincing variety of bogus RZM logos that we are now confronted with.

    Regards,

    David
