A great looking buckle, I think one of these is on the cover on Nash's buckle book. I never ever come across one of these.

Nice buckle Bill, probably the third I have ever seen, indeed a hard buckle to find.

    Kirby,

the buckle shown on the front of Nash's book is a different buckle. I also have that one as well and it is on a previous thread on this forum.

A really super buckle Bill and what a great addition to your collection. I think perhaps and as Tom Reid suggests, that the buckle is a commercial rather than an organisational item, however why do we have the "1915" underneath the iron cross? A little odd do you not think bearing in mind that the buckle declares the conflict to include the US (USW?). I wonder if this buckle could be bought with differing dates? Minor interesting detail to an overall spectacular and in my opinion, very rare and highly desirable private purchase veterans buckle.

    David,

Thanks for the kind words and indeed a very rare and seldom encountered buckle. I think you might be correct on the date thing. Possibly added to signify when he entered the service or left it for that matter. Reid lists it as "Bavarian" "Commercial" whatever that means, and shows a buckle w/a blackened face plate. It is obviosly? a veteran commemerative buckle and a private puirchase. In any event I was estatic to get it.

    Regards,

    Bill
