Came from an old gents trunk, had himself picked it up from an old vet way back. This came with two amazing unharmed tunics, all insignia present, almost impossible to find unless from a pro seller in this day and age. The buckle is a Berge & Nolte 1943, per Ben's always helpful page on buckles ;-) Both pouches have RBN #'s instead of maker's marks, typical of the late war period.

The buckle is much better shape than my previous late war steel buckle, more paint remaining, and the upper and lower corners just smooth bare metal with patina, rather than a light rust like the other. The belt and leather tab were both cut short for comfort probably, no one was gaining weight by this period... no need to worry about needing to let your belt out again it seems.

This set emanates a very strong smell of antique militaria, strong enough to make anything you'd put in a trunk with it smell correct. Lucky for us collectors no one has found a way to correctly replicate this smell for their fake items, that would be a disaster. I find it totally intoxicating myself, a smell of the past...

A nice used set . To bad the belt has been cut down but that was a common practice.

Nice score, it's getting harder to find matching pairs of ammo pouches these days...and when they're offered for sale, the price is often higher as a result...Well done!
    cheers, Glenn
