Anyone any idea what they were used for? Souveniers or supporter's buckles?
It is one of the more common of this type buckle. Most of the ones I have seen have been gold finished but I have seen a couple of silver ones. The one shown is marked Ges Gesch. I have owned a couple of others that were unmarked.
I have seen a couple of these on cloth belts. They might have been worn by women party supporters. Nothing to back that up.

I like these 'coloured' examples....One is just a little smaller than the other and one has 'frills' on the corners while the other is just 'plain jane'.
I love your gold example Kirby....still on the hunt for one of those...
This one is the exact buckle shown on the bottom of page 288 of Angolia's book....quite happy to have this documented example.
