Default Are these Concentration Camp photos of Dachau?...

    Hi all!

I purchased these photographs a while back and am looking for opinions from more experienced collectors regarding just how rare these photos may be, and where exactly they were taken (Dachau - or maybe a sub camp?). I am not interested in selling them; being the collector that I am, I don't think I could ever part with these.

The photos are mostly 2.5" x 2.5". I have no doubt at all that these are authentic. The level of detail in the photos when magnified is striking (the scan doesn't do them justice). For this post, I scanned the photos in Black and White, but the actual photographs as very slightly yellowed from age.

I'd appreciate any experienced opinions about the rarity, location, and history of these photographs. Sorry about the watermarks, I just don't want these photos floating around the net.

    Thanks!

These partially-buried earthen huts look like those found in the Kaufering IV camp, which was a sub-camp of KL Dachau. I do not know whether they were unique to that particular camp, though.

    See here for comparison photographs:

I agree jimpy, which if why I'll never part with them. To me these photos are priceless.

Can anyone give me any indication as to the rarity of these photos? How rare is it to come across a set of original photos like these?

HPL2008, the link you provided is appreciated. If you have a look at the very last photo on your linked page, the two people on the very left (carrying the body) appear to be the very same two people in the first photo, second row left, in my set. Have a look and tell me if you agree. If you look closely at both photos, you'll see the floppy hair on the lady (or guy ?) is the same in both, the boots she's wearing are the same, the gentleman's derby and both of their jackets appear to be the same as well.

Agreed! Those appear to be the same two people indeed; so Kaufering IV is confirmed. I am certain that the bare-headed one is a man, though.

Nordland/Danmark... I completely agree, well put!

Thanks for the great feedback everyone.

If there is anyone out there who knows, or can even estimate the value of these photos I'd appreciate it. My wife made a good point to me the other night that, in addition to the rest of my WWII collection, I should get a ballpark estimate on these photos for insurance purposes. Any ideas of their true value to a collector?

    Thanks!

Hi Dzyner, I very much agree with you and Nordland.

Putting an insurance value on these is sensible. I would estimate around $1000. That is just an educated guess on my part. Others may have different ideas.

Specialist insurance cover is something well worth taking out. Even a modest collection today will soon amass a large monetary value. Catalog your entire collection with photos and a written description. Make several duplicates of this and store them at different locations: bank, parents home, etc, as well as with the insurance Company.

    Cheers, Ade.

Thanks Ade! I was hoping you'd reply I've tried my best to apply a market value to my daggers, firearms, medals, uniform accessories, and other misc items, but things like photos are SO much more difficult to estimate.
