I am certain this is a modern re-enactment photo.

The Soviet soldier wear the pre war coloured Obr35 collar tabs, yet he is armed with a PPS43 . These were not widespread issue until 1943 and by then those collar tabs were out of use. Also the wear of the holster is something else which does not ring true to me if armed with an SMG.

    Cheers, Ade.

If you were the photographer would you be hanging around in that position to snap a pic? I think photography would be the last thing on my mind!

Looking for LDO marked EK2s and items relating to U-406.....

I myself wouldn't worry about taking a picture, but I do know other people that would do a *lot* to get a good picture :P

Thanks to both of you for replying

Actually, I originally thought the Russian had a captured Volkssturmgewehr 1-5. Now that I look closely though, it does look too blocky to be a Volkssturmgewehr. It looks like the german has a ppsh43 with a drum mag, but maybe it's his hand.

Am I missing something! The photo is clearly recent and nothing like a period photo !

As Nick says clearly a modern repro and let's use common sense here if you are in Nahkampf like this you are either hitting the deck , firing back or both not taking a photo !!!

To me this represents a reenactment scene of the Finnish Winter war. The Soviet wear a Ssh 36 and the Finn a Hungarian M38 and uses a Suomi MP.

PPS43's obviously were not yet in use in 1939-40.

These "Soviet" guy has to brush up his act! Wrong tabs, wrong MP, as mentioned before!

I would also say that it is a Finnish soldier and not a German
