Bloody Wednesday in Olkusz Poland - a pacification action carried out in Olkusz on July 31, 1940 in retaliation for the death of a German gendarme. All men from Olkusz were spent that day on the town square and nearby squares, where they were subjected to brutal torture and harassment for several hours. In addition, "Bloody Wednesday" was preceded by the execution of 20 hostages on July 16, 1940. The Germans dragged from their homes all men aged 15 to 55 (it was several thousand people) who they gathered on the Olkusz market square and several nearby squares , where for several hours they were subjected to brutal torture and harassment. Victims were beaten, mistreated and humiliated in the most sadistic way. For example, a group of Poles was forced to sing a national anthem and march with a white and red banner at the head of the column, beating everyone where it fell, and simultaneously photographing this macabre procession. They were then subjected to hours of bullying sadism, forced to lie face down in the city square and beaten if they moved. Three men died from the beatings.
