Yes it's a period one of Helmut taken at his Ritterkreuz Verleihung in Italy in summer 1944 !! He was a great guy and helped me very much into my research into 29 ( Mot ) Infanterie Division during Operation Barbarossa then at Stalingrad , after he passed away i have kept in touch with his son who was in the Bundeswehr !!

Paul, thats really awesome that you had the chance to meet so many Vets, especially RKTs. This must be a rare photo, as I couldnt find many images of him online. Really a stunning portrait tho....and he sure was decorated! I wonder when he was awarded the tank destruction badge? I will have to look it up.

Well, here it is. I did a little sumthin extra too, the only pic I could find of him....and very small. Didnt know what color his hair or eyes were, so I improvised!

Bill that is a superb job many thanks, i'll send a copy to his son !! When i met him he had grey hair and i can't remember his eye colour !!! Certainly the hair colour is right ! He won a PVA in Itlay in 1944 when he knocked out a Sherman with a Panzerfaust.
